White Widow Strain Review (Spinach)
Contents

White Widow is a very popular strain that’s been around forever, especially in and around all those Amsterdam coffee shops. When it comes to the recreational market, many LPs have grown their version of this cultivar (Dubon, Hexo, Aurora); this one comes under the Spinach brand, and it’s grown by Peace Naturals Inc.
This balanced hybrid was pretty strong when it comes to cannabinoid content, though THC varies by batch. Below is a more detailed breakdown of every aspect of this strain.
- Lineage: Brazilian x South Indian, according to Green House Seeds
- Type: Hybrid
- Potency: High THC on this batch (varies by batch)
- Terpene Profile: Myrcene, caryophyllene and linalool
- Packaging Details: Packaged 04/23/2020, tested/reviewed 07/01/2020, exactly 69 days later.
- Pricing Details: Purchased 3.5 grams for $27.00 at the SQDC in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, in 2020. ($7.71/g)
A note on numbers: THC and CBD percentages and terpene profiles vary by grower and batch, so treat the details here as one sample and check the label on the product you buy.
This product was bought legally in Canada, where adults can buy from retailers authorized by their province or territory. The minimum age is 21 in Quebec. In the US, marijuana is still a Schedule I drug under federal law outside the narrow categories that a 2026 final rule moved to Schedule III: FDA-approved drug products and state-licensed medical marijuana. State laws differ.
Appearance: 2/5

Visually speaking, this White Widow came out to be slightly below average. The container RH% came in at 45%, which is pretty low, in my opinion, so I did some rehydration and brought it up to 58% using a Boveda pack. I noticed that the trim felt like a machine trim, as the very dense nugs looked way too perfect and round.
The size of the nugs was small to medium, nothing too exciting here. This weed looked like some classic White Widow, with compact light green buds with a coat of amber trichomes covering them (although I would usually expect a heavier sheet, I did see some glands intact, which is always a plus).
Aroma: 1.5/5
Unfortunately, when it comes to aroma and flavor, I felt like this cultivar was missing something. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes simple is good, but I like something that excites the nostrils a little bit. All I got was woody scents with a subtle floral touch; the aroma was muted.
Flavor/Smoke: 2.5/5

The White Widow strain was never really known to leave some intense flavors on the palate, so it wasn’t surprising that I didn’t taste much. Just a touch of earthiness on the exhale; the smoke was reasonably smooth, though, and white ash is the best kind of ash, isn’t it?
Effects: 3.5/5
Fun is the first word that comes to mind when I try to break down the effects of this White Widow. It’s a little bit of a roller coaster ride; within the first 15 minutes, there’s a heavy cerebral effect that’s uplifting and energizing, excellent for doing some work or just socializing with friends.
After about an hour or so, the couch lock gets real! The eyes start to get heavy, and the effects become more visceral, and it’s best to be in front of your TV by that time.
Strong cannabis can cause anxiety or paranoia, especially at high doses or for newer users, and it impairs driving, according to NIDA. Start low, and never drive after using it.

Overall: 2.5/5

After sitting with this cultivar for a few days and writing up this White Widow strain review, I found that, overall, it was pretty average. Nothing too extraordinary here; the price point is just OK, the weed looked fine, and the terps were not very lively hence the lack of aroma and flavor (for an aroma that is a mix of woody and earthy scents, you can try Rio Bravo).
